When Doing Nothing Is The Work

Finally a free morning to sit down and write.

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks—directing three musical productions, media interviews, and holding space for clients in my private practice.

Two of my plants have dried up from neglect. Crispy leaves blown away by last night’s storm.
Luna trails me from room to room, resting her scruffy face on my feet like a quiet protest.
You’ve been away too long, she seems to say.
 And she’s not wrong.

Between the rehearsals, the creative chatter, the packed houses and the emptied tissue box,

Between the stories we tell and the ones we keep in silence.

There is a small quiet space.
 A pause. An exhale.
A moment that belongs only to me.

We live in a world that asks us to be loud to be seen.
But some healing happens in stillness.

In choosing not to rush an answer.
In watering your own roots.
In knowing that you don’t always have to be useful to be worthy.

Sometimes rest is the work.

This, is how we heal.
