The Grief of Watching
The Grief of Watching
The earth fractures in a distant far,
the tremor finds you.
Children whose names you will never know,
enter your breath,
wants refuge behind your ribs.
You, safe in your garden city,
yet the heart wanders
where smoke lifts into another sanguine sky,
another and another sky.
There is a sorrow,
a fragility,
a long breath,
in the grief of watching.
